Came across three trees in East Park suffering from red spot disease, the symptoms are a sudden and catastrophic loss of all branches and trunk and the appearance of an ominous red spot, it's almost always fatal.
We don't see it often. But drought can kill a tree, or over-watering. In 2011 we had a wind storm that felled 100-year-old cedars. I guess it was their time.
Over here it's emerald ash borers doing that kind of damage to those trees.
