Contempt, who me?

A little bit of Humber Street
I'm pondering whether or not I hold the city of Hull in contempt, an odd thing to do on a Friday evening but there you go. Someone in response to a comment I made to a piece in the Guardian newspaper remarked that I held the city in contempt. I don't where he got this idea. I confess to being sceptical, utterly unconvinced by any of the gushing praises currently being heaped upon the place, I'm frankly amazed that people put up with the ridiculously poor service from the Council and its, at times, idiotic staff. The schools, the roads, housing, health provision and so on all these things are far from good. Is pointing this out an act of contempt? I could, of course, say that the place was one big gloriously happy family, I could do that but, frankly, I'm not good at fiction.

The Weekend in Black and White is here.

  3. I guess most cities have there problems. No one is perfect. Good of you to point out the wrongs they do.

  4. We've got problems with the way our municipal government works here... though compared to the circus in our country's largest city right now, we're normal.

    Excellent black and white.

  5. Very intriguing composition : I didn't it was a car roof I was seeing at the bottom of the pic... Nice choice the black and white too : not seing the color enhaces the geometrical pattern you spotted and adds to the initial confusion. ^^

  6. Dear Hull and Hereabouts correspondent. Fancy joining me on stage at Kardomah94 (www.kardomah94.com) on Wednesday night to discuss the boundary issue as part of our evening celebration of the next day's Scottish Referendum? You would be a welcome addition to an evening of Scottish stereotyping and a viewing of 'Passport to Pimlico', being shown on the basis that you should be careful of what you wish for, nationally and regionally. You can have a good rant and possibly be ranted at but you'll have enjoyed a cracking pizza beforehand. Malcolm Scott. Mal@malcolmscott.org.

  7. This alley view in the rain seems to to symbolise your brewing feelings. It's good when administrations can see some light to move from possibility to probability...Just sometimes it needs a lot of light...

  8. It seems to be a new phenomenon in the UK that if you criticize anything then YOU are the person with the problem. We are just meant to be damn grateful for whatever we get it would seem and the at of believing that things can be improved, services better maintained and provided, makes you some sort of negative troll. Sadly it is why we have many areas with such poor services etc is because that type of mentality prevails and so everyone just sits quietly and accepts their lot. Government knows best after all. *sigh
