If you're ever in Hull and someone says they're going down the tenfoot, don't look at them as if they're from a different planet. They're just going down the numerous back alleyways that allow access for dustcarts and so on. They're called tenfoots because ... well, you work it out.
Down Wincomlee and when we moved to Bransholme, the tenfoot was always the area we were allowed to play in front of the house, the back alley was just the back alley. Our back alley was never ten feet, it was more like 3 feet. How posh where you to have a back alley big enough for a dust cart?
